What is an Australian Labradoodle?
The Australian Labradoodle is one of the most beloved and sought-after dog breeds in the world. Purposefully bred over generations, its lineage includes the Labrador Retriever, Poodle, and both English and American Cocker Spaniel. The breed began with the Labradoodle, a cross between the Labrador Retriever and Poodle, originally developed as a service dog for people with allergies. The Cocker Spaniel was carefully introduced by breeders in Australia to refine structure, bring consistency to temperament, and silken the coat. This thoughtful combination created the Australian Labradoodle: a joyful, highly intelligent, intuitive, and extraordinarily allergy-friendly companion.

The Importance of Generations in Australian Labradoodles
Not all doodles are developed the same, and when it comes to Australian Labradoodles, generations matter. Multigenerational breeding isn’t just about tradition; it’s what ensures the consistency, predictability, and excellence people expect from this exceptional breed.
A true Multigenerational Australian Labradoodle comes from lines that have been thoughtfully bred over time, blending Labrador Retriever, Poodle, and Cocker Spaniel ancestry. These generations are key to developing the allergy-friendly traits families count on, and the calm, intuitive temperament that makes Australian Labradoodles such beloved companions and support animals.
At Cream Puff Labradoodles, we are fortunate that due to our many years breeding and the varied breeding pool we have established, we don’t need to settle for early-generation crosses. We breed only true multigenerational lines, because we know that each generation refines the traits that matter most; health, structure, temperament, and hypoallergenic qualities.
What Makes Australian Labradoodles Hypoallergenic?
While no dog can ever be considered 100% hypoallergenic, Australian Labradoodles are often referred to as such. They have earned this reputation due to their low to no-shedding, allergy-friendly coats. These coats can be wool or fleece in texture, with fleece being the most sought-after for its silky-soft feel and lack of shedding. At Cream Puff Labradoodles, we breed specifically for fleece coats that are as hypoallergenic as any coat can be. This makes our puppies an excellent choice for families with allergy concerns. If you have allergy concerns we strong recommend scheduling an allergy visit with us.
Australian Labradoodle Coat Types
Australian Labradoodles typically have a fleece or wool coat, both of which are low-shedding and allergy-friendly. Fleece is wavy or soft-curly, while wool resembles a Poodle’s coat. Sometimes, Australian Labradoodles have hair coats, hair coats are less common and may shed more. As mentioned above, here at Cream Puff, we breed specifically for fleece coats.

What is the Australian Labradoodle Breed Standard?
The Australian Labradoodle breed standard outlines the ideal structure, temperament, and coat qualities of this joyful, intelligent, and allergy-friendly companion.
A well-bred Australian Labradoodle should have a balanced, athletic build; a soft, expressive face with kind eyes; a low to non-shedding fleece or wool coat; and smooth, effortless movement.
Temperament is where the breed truly shines. Australian Labradoodles are highly social, endlessly affectionate, and love to be part of the family. They’re incredibly intuitive and often serve as therapy, emotional support, and service dogs. Their intelligence and eagerness to please make them easy to train, while their loving disposition makes them ideal for children and multi-pet households
Breed associations like WALA (The Worldwide Australian Labradoodle Association) play a vital role in maintaining these standards. Cream Puff Labradoodles is proudly accredited by WALA, reflecting our long-standing commitment to excellence, health, and integrity in every puppy we raise.
Australian Labradoodles as Support Dogs
One of the most extraordinary things about Australian Labradoodles is how naturally they take to roles as support animals. Their gentle, intuitive nature and keen emotional intelligence make them exceptional therapy dogs, emotional support animals (ESAs), and even service dogs for those with physical or mental health needs.
We often hear from families whose Cream Puff Labradoodles provide a calm, grounding presence in stressful environments, from hospitals to classrooms, or even just a busy household. Thanks to their allergy-friendly coats, they're often welcome in places where other dogs aren’t. Whether offering comfort, reducing anxiety, or simply being a steady, loving companion, Australian Labradoodles are superstars in the support world.
Is a Cream Puff Labradoodle Right for You?
You’ll find you can go to many places and get a puppy that may look like our Australian Labradoodles as puppies and get them much cheaper, but there is generally a reason for this.
Just like all cheese is not the same i.e. American processed “cheese food” vs a nice aged real old world cheddar, not all dogs are created equal, nor are all Australian Labradoodles. All Australian Labradoodles are NOT non-shedding or allergy-friendly. It is very important that you do your homework and know what it is you are looking for, and what you are getting. You don’t want to make a 14 year commitment to a dear family pet on purchase price alone. Ask about the parents testing, their pedigree, their temperaments, just to name just a few things.
As a breeder, it takes a great deal of time, patience and money to raise healthy, happy Australian Labradoodles with wonderful temperaments which are then passed down to the puppies that will go on to be your much loved family pet. Keep all of this in mind, the price of your puppy will reflect in all that goes into your new family member.
