Bringing a puppy into your family brings boundless joy, companionship, and love. But for those with allergies, it can also bring some unique challenges. One of the questions we get asked the most is “What if I’m allergic to my puppy?”
At Cream Puff Labradoodles, our puppies have been privileged enough to change the lives of families with even the most severe allergies. Our founder suffered with COPD after 9/11 and unfortunately became allergic to his best friends. Through his quest for the perfect allergy-friendly companion he discovered the Australian Labradoodle and fell in love with the breed. Therefore, the Cream Puff Labradoodles story began.
With an overwhelming percentage of our clients being allergy sufferers, we’ve spent over a decade perfecting our allergy visit process. We understand how important it is for you to find a furry friend who fits seamlessly into your life without triggering uncomfortable allergic reactions. Our special allergy visits are designed to help you determine if one of our Australian Labradoodle puppies is the perfect match for you.
Understanding Allergy Visits
Australian Labradoodles are known for their hypoallergenic* qualities, but every person’s sensitivity is different. To ensure that you and your future furry family member can live comfortably together, we offer personalized allergy visits.
The Car Allergy Visit Experience
The unique way we conduct these visits is in your own car. Why do we do this? Because we want to create an environment where you can be absolutely sure that any reactions you might have are solely due to the puppy and not other external allergens. You likely use your car on a frequent basis and therefore are not likely to be allergic to anything in it. Here’s what to expect:
Scheduling Your Allergy Visit
First, get in touch with us by emailing hello@creampufflabradoodles.com to arrange an allergy visit. Your allergy visit must be with a specific puppy or litter you have in mind. This is because each litter has different genetics and allergen production. You could react with one litter, but be fine when meeting another. This is why we do not schedule allergy visits months before your decided go-home date. We also do not want you to fall in love with a puppy you cannot take home. Once we’ve helped you decide on a puppy that you are considering taking home, we’ll find a time that works for you to meet them.
Meeting Your Puppy
On the day of your visit, you’ll drive to our home in your own car. Once we know you are here and have greeted you, we will bring your puppy out to you. You’ll get to spend some quality time with your puppy right in your car. This is the time to cuddle, play, and see how you feel. We’ll be close by to answer any questions and provide support.
Noticing Reactions
During the visit, pay attention to how your body responds. Look out for any signs of an allergic reaction such as hives, sneezing, itching, watery eyes, or nasal congestion. After you have spent time in the car with your puppy, when we know there is no reaction, we do allow you to continue the visit with the puppy outside the car. If you don’t experience any symptoms after the visit or overnight, it’s a good sign that your puppy might be a great fit for you. Once you, your family, and our team feel comfortable, we can go ahead and schedule your puppy’s Gotcha Day.
Our Commitment to Your Comfort
Your comfort and peace of mind are at the heart of everything we do at Cream Puff Labradoodles. We want to make sure that bringing a new puppy into your home is a joyful experience, free from the worry of allergic reactions. Our allergy visits are designed to give you the confidence you need to make this important decision.
Watch an Allergy Visit in Action
To get a better idea of what an allergy visit looks like watch this video where Megan, our Pack Leader, walks you through an allergy visit with one of our puppies:
What if I find I’m Allergic to My Puppy After I Take Them Home?
Since we take so much care and attention to how our puppies are handled before and during your allergy visit, this is not usually the case. However in the rare instance this happens you can always bring your puppy back to us.
Feel free to reach out to hello@creampufflabradoodles.com with any questions or to set up your allergy visit. We can’t wait to help you find your perfect furry friend!
*While no dog can ever be deemed 100% hypoallergenic, breeds such as Australian Labradoodles are very well suited to those with allergies. Our founder started Cream Puff Labradoodles many years ago for this reason - Australian Labradoodles are one of the most allergy-friendly dog breeds around!
